2012: Advent Roller Derby: Post-bout curry

Marla Mayhem

The final whistle blows, the head ref signals the end of the game… so what happens now? (No, don’t start singing that song from Evita!)

There is often a lot of hugging straight after the end of a bout. Skaters hug their team-mates, their opposition, their family and friends in the audience, random fans. They also go to shake hands with the refs and NSOs. Then there are laps of honour where all the crowd line the track to high-five the skaters from both teams. Sometimes the refs take a lap of honour too, and occasionally a couple of NSOs might as well!

The next step is taking up the track, tidying up of the hall, and going to the after-party. Usually there is a lot of alcohol consumed at after-parties, and it is loud and goes on into the wee hours. As you can probably tell, I don’t often attend the after-party. I like to go for a post-bout curry though, especially after Rainy City home games when we go to the Desi Lounge (best curry house I’ve been to!).

This is (probably) the last post for Advent Roller Derby, there might be a couple of skater profiles after Christmas but it depends on the rollergirls to get back to me with their answers! Sorry for falling off the wagon with this, I suddenly had to do Christmas preparations! If you want to know more about what’s happening in the UK roller derby scene, you can follow Rollin’ News on Facebook or Twitter, or add me on Facebook or Twitter as well.

Keeeeeep rolling!
